One of the simplest, but best ideas for a pledge night is a simple photo fraternity scavenger hunt.
Planned properly, this could be the ideal event to introduce the pledge class to each other as well as the brotherhood.
The planning is simple. All you really need to do is come up with a list of ‘things’ you want photographed. You can be as creative as you want.
The list will most likely include taking photos at sorority houses and at the all-girls dorms. There are bound to be brothers who will be looking to score points with their girlfriends and will have the pledges take a picture giving her a rose or something weak like that.
Have the pledges get their picture taken with those brothers who are very difficult to find and don’t come around as often as the fraternity would like. If you can teach them something about the school or the fraternity that is fantastic. Really, the options are limitless.
That being said, you don’t want to put your pledges in a position where they could get in trouble or embarrass themselves or the fraternity. This event will be great and there is no need to jeopardize it with stupidity.
On the night of the event, lay down ground rules for the pledges. Take their cell phones away to increase the level of difficulty. Give them a time they are expected to complete their task. Tell them they are not to break any laws, to include traffic laws.
Let them know that there are going to be brothers watching them, and they can’t get caught. It really doesn’t matter if brothers are watching them or not.
Finally, once their night is over, be sure to have the pledge put together a scrap book of their pictures. Keep a collection of the photos and they should make for great conversation around the fraternity house.
