Believe it or not, people are good natured and want to help you. However, they can’t help you if they don’t know you need help. Fortunately for you, there is a person out there who is particularly interested in your success, and has the ability to help you in big ways. They just need to be asked.
This person is your Greek Life advisor. They can help you on two levels.
First, they are paid to provide guidance and to help you achieve your goals. It is more than that though. The best Greek Advisors don’t approach their role as a job, but as a calling. They are an incredibly valuable source of information, and they are motivated to seeing you succeed.
Second, they have names! Think about it. The summer before school, there are going to be people who are interested in joining a fraternity, but have no ties to any particular chapter.
Their natural first step is to go to the Greek Life website of your university and learn as much as they can. If your Greek Life staff has their stuff together, they will have provided a signup option on this site for guys who are interested in receiving more information.
These guys will sign up, and that gives the Greek Life advisor his name and contact information. And if you explain to your advisor that you need help in recruitment, and if the advisor believes that your fraternity is an asset to the community, then he will happily offer you this name and will even give your fraternity a recommendation.
This is a networking opportunity that you have to take advantage of!
You might already be late to the party though. Set up a meeting with your advisor as soon as possible and before it is too late!
