Wasting Time in Fraternity Recruitment

Wasting Time in Fraternity Recruitment

Correct me if I’m wrong, but your fraternity knows a couple guys who are recruited every semester that always refuse to join.

You probably have given them bids on more than one occasion.  They think about it long and hard, but they never pull the trigger.

This frustrates the brothers in the fraternity to no end.  The brothers can’t understand why the guy refuses to join.

If this is happening in your fraternity – you need to do two things.

First, you need to do some soul-searching to figure out why this guy won’t join.  The guys who are closest to your fraternity are the guys who know exactly what they are getting themselves into.  If they don’t want to join, it could be because of something the fraternity does.  You have to figure out what that is.

Second, you need to stop wasting time recruiting the guy.  Sure, it would be great if he became a brother.  But sometimes it just isn’t in the cards.  You have such a limited amount of time to fill your new member classes that you don’t have time to waste on a guy who has repeatedly turned the fraternity down in the past.

Fraternity recruitment is challenging.  It is even more challenging when you go about it the wrong way.  Einstein’s definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.  This is a lesson a lot of fraternities need to learn.
